March 22-28: Clayton comes to Granada!
I hadn't seen Clayton since Feb 15, so I was very anxious for his arrival and had a countdown hanging up in my room. I made him a super cheesy sign that said "Bienvenido a España" which means welcome to Spain and brought it to the airport to greet him. Luckily he flew into Granada so I didn't have to trek all the way to Málaga and back. Of course I cried when I saw him walk out of baggage claim, it was so unreal that he was actually in Spain! He got here on Saturday, march 22 but I didn't plan anything big because I knew he would be tired from his long journey across the Atlantic, so I showed him around my stomping grounds in Granada and we had a very nice italian lunch together (:
On Sunday, 03/23, we spent the day at the Alhambra enjoying the wonderful weather. Even though I had been to the Alhambra once before, it was still just as great the second time and Clayton really liked it too. We were blessed with warm weather and sunshine for the whole week he was here which was awesome, a nice change for him from the nasty Chicago weather. After the Alhambra we went to dinner at my new favorite place in Granada, Foster's Hollywood, which serves authentic American food, a rare thing in Granada.
On Monday, the boy and I ventured to Nerja, a town about 2 hours away from Granada by bus to go to the beach! Nerja is absolutely beautiful and I wish I would have been able to go there again. It is so much different from the beaches in the United States and I'm so glad we were able to go. I don't think I have ever been to a place in the US where the mountains are right by the beach. The weather was perfect again and we got pretty sunburned haha. We walked around the town through the little cobble stone streets of stores and little cafes, ate a delicious lunch and laid by the ocean for a while. It was nice to get out of Granada and get some sun and even though it wasn't like a day in South Padre for spring break, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Unfortunately on Tuesday I had to give a presentation for one of my classes so the day was pretty uneventful! We walked around the city and did some shopping and had Casa de la pasta for lunch. Casa de la pasta is a little pasta place that is run by two italian brothers who make fresh pasta everyday and it is so good! At night we had mexican food and margaritas for dinner and then went to Mae West, a popular discoteca, with a lot of my friends!
Wednesday was also another relaxing day in Granada, but at night we ventured up to the Albazyin for a Flamenco show! We went to the mirador de San Nicolas which looks out over Granada and the Alhambra and is absolutely breath taking. We had dinner and saw a flamenco show at the Jardines De Zoraya which I would 100% recommend if you are looking for a place to see Flamenco in Granada. The food was amazing, and the show was spectacular, better than the one I saw with my program for school! I'm glad Clayton got to experience something so important to the Spanish culture; such a fun little date night.
Thursday was Clayton's last full day in Granada ): . We finished the week by paragliding in the Sierra Nevadas- by far the scariest thing I have ever done in my entire life. Paragliding is simply being strapped to a guide with a giant parachute and running off the edge of a mountain and floating back down to earth. Unfortunately, my guide and I had a little bit of a crash landing on the highway but other than that it was very exhilarating! It made me really want to go skydiving, if only I could talk the boy into doing that with me... (; That night we had our last dinner at a nice italian restaurant!
Friday morning we left around 5:40am, so fricken early, to get to Granada airport so Clayton could go back to the United States. From the airport I continued on my way to go to Málaga to fly to Dublin to reunite with Alex, Amy and Erica which is what my next entry will be about. The week with Clayton went by seriously way to fast but I was so blessed that he was able to come here and spend his spring break with me. Words cannot describe how much I miss him everyday, we are just not meant to be apart. Only 18 more days until we are reunited though and it feels like it has been an eternity since we have seen each other. Can't wait to be together again <3
